Over the last several months I’ve been experimenting with aquarium water as a hydration source for my houseplants, and I must say the results have been amazing!
After seeing the improved growth and health of my indoor plants first-hand, I decided to use aquarium water tonight for the watering of my microgreen trays to see if the benefits will be the same.
Water from a well-established aquarium is rich in nutrients, including nitrogen and trace minerals, which can be used as a natural fertilizer for houseplants or garden beds.
I’ve posted a more detailed discussion on aquarium water being used for improved plant health on Mike’s Lagoon, a site which focuses more on fish and indoor/outdoor plants. Give it a read if you have a fish tank in your house and want to learn more.
“The ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings, as well as the nurturing of the land and water.”
– Masanobu Fukuoka
In addition to wanting to grow the best microgreens on the planet, I’m trying to create a closed-loop system that reduces waste and fosters sustainability.
We are well on our way! And after tonight, we’ll be a big step closer to that ultimate goal!
